About three weeks ago, Kevin Towers joined Doug and Wolf on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM and basically gave the same answer he’s given all year when asked about his own job security as the general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

“I am only going to worry about the things that I can control,” Towers said at the time. “I care about the organization and the future of this organization and I’m not going to stop until they take away my office key.”

Thursday, the Diamondbacks took away Towers’ title and offered him reassignment within the front office. But he still has his key, meaning his outlook hasn’t changed much despite what amounts to a demotion at best.

“I’m not a quitter and I’m going to stay on kind of running baseball operations with Tony (La Russa) and Derrick (Hall) until they hire somebody as the general manager,” Towers said Friday during a media conference call. “I feel like I’m very vested in this organization when it comes to people, players — a lot of people I care a great deal about.

“To me, it’s going to be kind of business as usual.”
