The Arizona Cardinals will be represented by three members of the National Gay Flag Football League on Day 2 of the 2022 NFL Draft and will announce picks live from Mexico City on Day 3.
NGFFL commissioner Shigeo Iwamiya and board members Joel Horton and Jodie Turner will announce a Cardinals pick in an effort by the NFL to embrace and uplift the LGBTQ+ community.
Horton is the former commissioner of the Phoenix Gay Flag Football League and a player on the Arizona Arsenal while Turner is a member of the winningest program in both the Women’s+ Division and the overall NGFFL.
The NGFFL’s mission is to “foster and cultivate the self-respect of all LGBTQ+ people and promote respect, acceptance, and understanding from the larger community.”
The Cardinals have two selections on Day 2 of the draft with the No. 55 and No. 87 overall picks.
On Day 3, all NFL teams will make pick announcements from special locations.
For the Cardinals, offensive lineman Will Hernandez will be among a contingent, including the team mascot and Cardinals Cheerleaders, who will announce the team’s five Day 3 selections from Centro Deportivo Chapultepec in Mexico City.
The Cardinals will also host a draft party during the first round on Thursday before holding a meet-and-greet autograph signing Friday and a youth football skills clinic Saturday at the Centro Deportivo Chapultepec.
Arizona has been designated to play a home game at Estadio Azteca in Mexico in 2022.
