Arizona Cardinals defensive end Cameron Thomas is excited to work with his role model J.J. Watt during his rookie campaign.
The third-round pick from San Diego State says he has molded his game after Watt’s, so much so that he wore No. 99 in college.
“He’s just like my role model,” Thomas told reporters on Thursday. “I have watched so much of his film and to be able to learn from him, I’m really excited to pick his brain.”
The rookie will slot in behind Watt on the depth chart, but will also battle for playing time with the likes of Zach Allen, Michael Dogbe and new signee Kingsley Keke.
Thomas said he has taken Watt’s demeanor and made it his own. Although he has not met his idol yet, there are uncanny similarities.
“Relentless and effort, those are the two things I pride myself on,” Thomas said.
“I see a lot of similarities. During my time at San Diego State, I would line up all over the line of scrimmage and that’s something he also does, but he just dominates. Wherever you line him up he’s going to win.”
Thomas said that he might not be able to control his emotions when he goes to meet Watt.
“I might be like a little kid when I meet him, seriously. We’ll see how that goes but I’m really excited to meet him.”
