It’s hard to trade a superstar for prospects — it rarely works out.
Paul Goldschmidt is making the Arizona Diamondbacks regret trading him to the St. Louis Cardinals before the 2019 season.
So far in 2022, Goldschmidt is one of the top players in MLB. Through the first 46 games of the season, he is hitting .355 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs.
If he keeps up this pace, he could be the front-runner for the NL MVP Award.
For the D-backs, this trade hasn’t worked out.
The return for Goldschmidt was pitcher Luke Weaver, catcher Carson Kelly and infielder Andrew Young.
Weaver has dealt with his fair share of injuries since he got to Arizona and has underperformed on the mound when he’s been healthy. Kelly has shown some flashes of being a consistent everyday catcher but has been underwhelming to say the least, and Andrew Young is no longer with the organization.
Cody Fincher and Steve Zinsmeister discuss on “The Ain’t No Fang Podcast” if the Paul Goldschmidt trade to the Cardinals was the worst trade in D-backs history.
