The Arizona Cardinals’ new hotel for training camp was damaged by the Valley’s latest monsoon storms on Monday night, the team confirmed to Arizona Sports’ Tyler Drake on Tuesday.
A team spokesperson said four rooms occupied by the team have water damage, all of which are assigned to staff and not players.
The Cardinals are staying at The Wigwam in Litchfield Park, a change from Arizona’s previous stays at The Renaissance Hotel, which was across the street from State Farm Stadium. ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss reported the change was due to a dispute between the hotel and NFL over hotel prices during the week of the upcoming Super Bowl LVII.
Three different storms rolled through the Phoenix area Monday night and produced over 2 inches of rain in some areas. A gauge just east of The Wigwam tracked 1.14 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. Sun City showed 1.54 inches, another in north Phoenix 1.69 and one in Cave Creek at 0.87.
Arizona started training camp on Tuesday.
