Cardinals coach Whisenhunt never doubted Andre Roberts

The Arizona Cardinals left University of Phoenix Stadium Sunday afternoon with a big win over the Miami Dolphins and, better yet, a 4-0 record. Much of that was made possible because of the play of wide receiver Andre Roberts.
Roberts has flown under the radar since being taken in the third round in 2010 draft by the Cardinals. With superstar and future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald on his team, it’s understandable that Roberts may have a tough time getting noticed. Yet, he continues to get the job done.
Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt never doubted Roberts’ contributions.
“We’ve been pleased with the way Andre has played the last two and a half years,” he said. “We’ve been the ones saying Andre is a good receiver, Andre is a good receiver. I remember last year everybody talking about all the receivers we should bring in to be the number two, we didn’t have a number two.”
Roberts had six catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns against Miami, with his second touchdown catch coming on a 4th and 10 that forced overtime.
“You know I think that it’s nice to see Andre getting opportunities,” Whisenhunt said. “Sometimes that’s the way it goes, the ball will find you.
“It’s doing that with Andre and to his credit he’s making those plays when it comes his way.”
Roberts has four touchdowns in four games in 2012, a number that represents half of his career total of eight. He shows up to work every day and quietly goes about his business. The media may not talk about him much, but his effort doesn’t go unnoticed by the coaching staff.
Whisenhunt said Roberts has earned the right to be in the game.
“He’s worked very hard to get these opportunities and it’s nice to see him have success with them.”
