It seems the Arizona Diamondbacks’ offense finally ran out of gas Friday night.
An off night for the D-backs sluggers plus stellar pitching from Atlanta Braves starter Julio Teheran resulted in only two runs for Arizona as they dropped the series and road trip opener to the Braves, 3-2.
Ender Inciarte crossed home plate in both scoring plays for the Diamondbacks. In the sixth, he singled and moved to second on a wild pitch before Paul Goldschmidt brought him in with an RBI double.
Inciarte scored again on an AJ Pollock single after hitting a double in the previous at-bat.
Tehran (8-6) allowed three hits, one run and two walks with seven strikeouts. Back-to-back triples from Jace Peterson and Cameron Maybin, plus another hit from Maybin in the fifth, accounted for the three runs for the Braves.
Here’s a look at some of the numbers from the D-backs loss in A-town.
4 1/3
The number of innings pitched by D-backs starter Robbie Ray. He allowed six hits, three runs and four walks in 4 1/3 innings. Ray hasn’t been able to gt a win since the All-Star break.

Prior to tonight, the Diamondbacks offense had been stuck overdrive, scoring 36 runs in four games including two 13-run games against the Philadelphia Phillies.

While the offense sputtered out Friday night, the defense was doing just fine. Robbie Ray’s line was assisted by some stellar plays, including three double plays.

Ender Inciarte had a single and a double in this game, good for his 33 multi-hit game this season.

This was the first game of a 10-game road trip for the D-backs. They’ll play two more games in Atlanta before heading to Pittsburgh for three games and finishing with four in Cincinnati.
