Former Cardinals RB coach James Saxon pled guilty to domestic battery

Former Arizona Cardinals running backs coach James Saxon pled guilty to one count of domestic battery on Oct. 6 after assaulting a woman in her Indianapolis home in May, according to Indiana court records.

The lone charge is a Class A misdemeanor after a secondary charge, domestic battery in the presence of a child younger than 16 years old, was dismissed on Oct. 6.

Saxon was given a one-year sentence and paid $625 in fines and court fees. However, the one-year sentence was suspended and he was placed on one year of probation.

The ruling also requires Saxon to partake in a 26-week course of the “Batterers Intervention Program.”

According to the probable cause affidavit, he pushed the woman multiple times, including into a garage door, in front of two children.

“You got your gun? You might as well just shoot me now,” she allegedly said, according to ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss.

An arrest warrant for Saxon was issued on May 25 but then later recalled on June 8.

He had a restraining order issued on June 15 and was also assigned GPS monitoring, but it was removed on July 21 against the state of Indiana’s objections.

Saxon served as the Cardinals runnings backs coach from February 2019 to August 2022 before the team placed him on paid administrative leave.

He had been an assistant for 23 years and played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles for eight seasons.

Saxon resigned from the coaching staff in October to focus on his family and personal life.

Chief of staff and offensive assistant Kenny Bell has been serving in his place this season.
