The Arizona Coyotes on Thursday loaned forward Dylan Guenther to Team Canada for the 2023 World Junior Championship.

The tournament will run from Dec. 26 through Jan. 5 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Moncton, New Brunswick.

Fellow under-20 NHL players who have already joined the team are Seattle Kraken center Shane Wright, the 2022 NHL Draft’s fourth overall pick, and the Los Angeles Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke, the eighth overall pick in 2021.

Guenther, the most experienced of the three in NHL terms, was Arizona’s 2021 first-round pick, drafted ninth overall.

He played in two games during the 2022 edition of the World Junior Championship that was canceled due to COVID-19 outbreaks.

For the Coyotes this season, Guenther has three goals, all on the power play, and eight assists in 21 games.

The 19-year-old has averaged 12:20 on ice and has eight penalty minutes.

He’s sixth on the team in scoring.

The 6-foot-2, 181-pound player is from Edmonton.
