Arizona Diamondbacks’ Paul Goldschmidt expresses frustration following strikeout Saturday

Believe it or not, things don’t always come easy for Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.  Following a strikeout in Saturday night’s 3-2 loss to the Oakland Athletics at Chase Field, Goldschmidt, who finished the night 0-for-3 with two strikeouts, took his aggression out on a bat rack resting inside the D-backs’ dugout.

The D-backs were trailing by a run with Goldschmidt leading off the eighth inning. Oakland reliever Fernando Rodriguez fired a 93-mph fastball by Goldschmidt for a called strike three, earning the All-Star first baseman his second backward ‘K’ of the game. Goldschmidt also looked at strike three against A’s starter Aaron Brooks with two men on and nobody out in the top of the first inning.

“I think there’s always frustrations when you don’t get on base and don’t do the job you’re supposed to do,” Goldschmidt said when asked about the demonstration after the game. “I didn’t have the greatest night at the plate, but it’s part of it so you move on and hopefully we’ll go get ’em and win the series (Sunday).”
