Denver Broncos dealing Kyle Orton is a win-win for the Arizona Cardinals

Jul 12, 2011, 3:21 PM | Updated: 5:50 pm

Rumors and speculation about Kyle Orton being traded may have run rampant for a majority of the lockout but there had been very little credible information to suggest the Broncos would actually pull the trigger on a deal. That is, until now.

Denver Post Broncos beat writer Mike Klis, who by all accounts is very dialed in with the team, made it clear in a mailbag Tuesday that he doesn’t see Orton playing in the Mile High City this year.

I believe Tebow will be the Broncos’ starting quarterback this year and Orton will be starting somewhere else. But you just can’t give Tebow the job before training camp starts. He has to earn that type of security.

Whether the Arizona Cardinals truly want Orton or not, the fact that he will be available helps them in their pursuit of a quarterback.

Just like an overabundance of houses in the Phoenix market has lowered property value around the Valley, adding another quarterback to the market will, in theory, help lower prices for teams like the Cards. If they aren’t really interested in Orton, even feigning interesting in Orton will help their bargaining power with any other team or QB they may be negotiating with.

The Broncos being willing to deal Orton is a win-win for the Cardinals. They can pursue a guy they want to help lead their team or they can get a guy like Kevin Kolb cheaper. Either way it means the Derek Anderson-Max Hall-John Skelton-Rich Bartel era is about to come to an end.
