It appeared the Arizona Coyotes faced a 1-0 hole against the Chicago Blackhawks when a shot nicked Arizona’s Klas Dahlbeck and rolled past goalie Louis Domingue.
Not to fast.
Coyotes coach Dave Tippett challenged the play believing Chicago’s Marian Hossa interfered with Domingue before the goal, and turns out he was correct. Tippett won the first of five challenges this season.
Well, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville certainly did not like the result of the review, and he let the officials know as much and earned a bench penalty for it. That outburst compounded in the Coyotes’ favor when defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored during the power play minutes later, at the 17:12 mark of the first period.
The goal was Ekman-Larsson’s ninth power play goal of the season.
The Coyotes would fall 5-4 in overtime.
