Grand Canyon University advanced to the quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, defeating Jackson State 64-54 Thursday night. Sophomore guard Josh Braun led the Lopes with 18 points and was a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line.

Jackson State held a 27-21 lead at halftime over GCU, due mainly to the Lopes shooting only 33.3 percent from the field and 1-of-8 from beyond the arc.

GCU caught fire in the second half, shooting 52.2 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point land, outscoring the Tigers 43-27. Sophomore forward Matt Jackson and redshirt senior Ryan Majerle combined for 17 points, outscoring the Jackson State bench 17-13 by themselves.

The difference of the game came down to free throw shooting and rebounding. GCU went to the charity strip 21 times compared to Jackson State’s five, and the Lopes outrebounded the Tigers 34-27.

GCU’s quarterfinal opponent and location of the game has not been announced.
