D-backs close successful 10-game road trip: By the numbers

The ball carries on the regular in Denver, but the Arizona Diamondbacks knocked it around both through the air and on the ground, managing to stitch together a team record 56 hits in a four-game series.
Splitting that series against the Colorado Rockies, the D-backs fell 9-7 on Sunday at the hands of Mark Reynolds’ walk-off homer, closing a 10-game road trip with a 7-3 record.
While the offense put up big numbers late, Arizona handled business better in the front-half of the trip, where sound starting pitching led to five straight wins.
The Diamondbacks (36-42) now head home to face the Philadelphia Phillies, who they swept to begin the road trip before heading to Toronto for two games and Colorado for four more. Here’s a look at where they stand, by the numbers.

Currently, the Diamondbacks rank fifth in the majors with 54 stolen bases through Sunday afternoon. They are also third in MLB with a stolen base percentage of 77. Individually, Jean Segura is tied for ninth in the majors with 13 of his own, but even ace Zack Greinke got involved in the aggressive baserunning during the trip, becoming the only pitcher to steal a base so far in 2016.

The D-backs averaged 5.8 runs per game during the 10-game trip.

Segura led off for Arizona in nine of the 10 games on the road trip and successfully reached base in six of those outings. He had four singles, two walks and a double on the successful lead-off at-bats. Arizona scored the infielder in four of those first innings.

Though they failed to put together their best 10-game road trip with a win Sunday, the D-backs have only won seven games during a 10-game road trip five other times in team history. They have done so twice this season — first in April in a California road trip against the Dodgers, Padres and Giants — but before that hadn’t put together a trip with as much success since 2008.

Seven different pitchers earned wins. Five starters took victories with the five-game winning streak to begin the trip — Arizona didn’t allow more than two runs in any of those games. Then, Brad Ziegler and Josh Collmenter were credited with two wins to begin the Colorado series.

Paul Goldschmidt matched former Mets catcher Mike Piazza’s record of 48 straight games of reaching base against the Rockies. That streak also leads all current major league players reaching safely against any opponent. The Blue Jays’ Josh Donaldson is a distant second with 38 consecutive against the Astros.
