DJ Calhoun was a big part of Arizona State’s surprisingly effective defense in 2014, and Wednesday he was named a Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America.
Calhoun finished the season with 35 tackles — seven of which came for a loss — two sacks, two passes defensed, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble.
The linebacker was one of 20 true freshman to be selected for the 30-member team. It’s Calhoun’s second Freshman All-America honor, as he was named to the SCOUT 2014 All-America Squad in December.
Calhoun was also All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention.
