According to multiple reports, the Arizona Diamondbacks have traded relief pitcher Tyler Clippard to the New York Yankees for minor league pitcher Vicente Campos.

Campos has spent time in all three levels of the minors this season, compiling a 9-3 record with a 3.20 ERA in 121 innings pitched. Over seven seasons with both the Yankees and Seattle Mariners, Campos posted a 33-23 record with a 3.67 ERA in 104 games.  New York acquired the 24-year-old in a trade in 2012 from Seattle. The Mariners signed Campos as a non-drafted free agent in 2009.

The Diamondbacks signed Clippard last offseason, hoping to shore up the back end of the bullpen. Arizona did not get the veteran they anticipated and Clippard posted a 4.30 ERA in 40 games, his highest ERA since the 2008 season with the Washington Nationals.

Clippard’s career comes full circle, as the pitcher was drafted by the Yankees in the ninth round of the 2003 MLB draft.
