ARIZONA CARDINALS

Larry Foote, Chandler Catanzaro earn MMQB midseason nods

Given that the Arizona Cardinals are 6-1 and leading the vaunted NFC West, it stands to reason they would have a handful of players who are in the middle of a banner season.

Incidentally enough, that is not entirely the case. The Cardinals are very much a team where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and while many players are performing well, few are really standing out.

That does not mean their efforts are going unnoticed, however. In a piece handing out 2014 Midseeason All-Pro nods, MMQB’s Andy Benoit mentioned a couple of Cardinals.

On the first team, he went with inside linebacker Larry Foote.

Proficiency as an A-gap blitzer is the lynchpin to Arizona’s pressure-based scheme.

Signed to a one-year free agent deal in the offseason, Foote has played every defensive snap for Arizona and responded with 36 total tackles, one sack, one interception and three passes defensed.

Foote was the only first-team nominee, but not the only Cardinal mentioned, as rookie kicker Chandler Catanzaro earned a second team nod from the writer.

The undrafted free agent out of Clemson is a perfect 16-of-16 on field goal attempts, has made every one of his PAT tries and has consistently boomed kickoffs into the end zone. His 16 consecutive made field goals to start the season established a new NFL record for rookies.
