For 34 minutes Saturday, the Arizona Wildcats looked like one of the best basketball teams in the nation as they built a 21-point lead over a solid Texas A&M team in Houston.
Of course, games last 40 minutes, and the final six in the game saw the ‘Cats hang on for dear life and eventually escape with a 67-63 victory.
That victory — along with their 64-54 home win over Grand Canyon University earlier in the week — improved their record to 10-2, and on Monday they moved up in both the AP and USA Today polls from 19th to 18th.
The Wildcats are one of four Pac-12 teams to appear in the top 25, as they sit behind No. 2 UCLA but ahead of Oregon and USC.
Sean Miller’s team, which is still playing without Allonzo Trier due to an undisclosed suspension and Parker Jackson-Cartwright, who is out with a high ankle sprain, has one more non-conference game left Tuesday at home against the University of New Mexico.
