Mercury give Brittney Griner her own street and downtown banner

Apr 16, 2013, 4:20 AM | Updated: 4:29 am

Brittney Griner hasn’t even played a single game in the WNBA yet, but already the Phoenix Mercury are rolling out the red carpet for their new No. 1 overall pick.

Following Monday’s selection of the Baylor center in the 2013 WNBA Draft, the organization decided to honor her in pretty memorable fashion.

The Mercury renamed First Street in downtown Phoenix “Griner Street” and unveiled a 77-foot banner of the two-time John R. Wooden Award winner on the east side of Hotel Palomar.

No pressure, rookie.
