Collmenter, Goldschmidt help D-backs win comfortably over Giants: By The Numbers

...

Paul Goldschmidt continued his individual dominance against Tim Lincecum Wednesday night, bashing a first-inning fastball over the right field wall for a three-run shot.

From there, the Arizona Diamondbacks received timely hits from Eric Chavez and Gerardo Parra, five quality innings out of right-hander Bronson Arroyo and an extended relief appearance from Josh Collmenter en route to a 7-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.

Here’s a look back at Arizona’s second road win of the campaign by the numbers:

1:

Parra finished a double short of the cycle, but did manage to knock Lincecum out off the contest with a two-run blast in the fourth inning — his first of 2014.

The evening also marked his first three-hit performance of the season.

1-7:

Dating back to the beginning of the 2011 season, Lincecum is an abysmal 1-7 in his last eight decisions against the D-backs.

3:

Eric Chavez made his first start of the season at the third base and had a nice evening at the dish, lacing an RBI triple in the third to plate Arizona’s fifth run of the contest.

The three-bagger was his first since July 23, 2013.

4:

D-backs GM Kevin Towers made it very clear Wednesday on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s Doug & Wolf that the team was planning to get Collmenter ready to potentially jump into the starting rotation.

That certainly was the case just hours later. Collmenter pitched four scoreless innings in the four-run victory for his first career save.

5 Part I:

For the first time in his D-backs career, Arroyo managed to complete five innings of work. Their were some bumps along the way, including a solo shot by Buster Posey, but the veteran right-hander navigated his way to his first win in Sedona red.

5 Part II:

With the 7-3 loss, San Francisco dropped its fifth straight home game against Arizona in which Tim Lincecum took the bump.

6:

Brandon Belt failed to hit a home run for just the second time in six games against Arizona pitching. However, he did blast a long foul ball off of Arroyo in the bottom of the fifth that landed in McCovey Cove.

7:

Goldschmidt’s long ball was the seventh of his career off of Lincecum — the most he has against any opposing pitcher. Of those seven, three have come in his first at-bat.

In addition, Goldschmidt has 13 hits in 24 career at-bats against the two-time Cy Young Award winner.

9:

After tying the franchise record with home runs in four straight games, D-backs left fielder Mark Trumbo has gone cold at the plate.

In the first two games of three-game set, Trumbo is 0-for-9 with three strikeouts.

22:

Goldschmidt’s opposite field shot in the first inning marked just the 22nd time in AT&T Park’s 15-year history that a right-handed hitter homered over the right field wall.
