Goldschmidt, D-backs reel in walk-off win in extras vs. Marlins: By The Numbers

There was irony to be had Wednesday when Steve Cishek took the mound for the Miami Marlins with a 3-1 lead in hand.

Just the night before, he saw Arizona Diamondbacks closer Addison Reed blow a save and cede victory to the Marlins.

Less than 24 hours later, it was Cishek’s turn to struggle. He blew his third save of the season as the Diamondbacks secured a come-from-behind 4-3 win in the 10th.

Prior to the late drama, though, pitchers Josh Collmenter and Nathan Eovaldi were the storyline.

Eovaldi held Diamondbacks hitters to just one run on four hits and a walk while Collmenter held the opposition to a run on seven hits and a walk.

But in setup man Brad Ziegler’s second frame of work, the 10th, the Marlins managed to replicate their late-inning heroics of a night prior, just with a different cast.

An infield single, a sacrifice and an intentional walk set the stage for Donovan Solano’s two-run double.

Then came that irony.

Aaron Hill, Ender Inciarte, David Peralta and Paul Goldschmidt quickly flipped the script, each reaching safely and collectively rallying to give the Diamondbacks a 4-3 win.

1

Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed collected his first major league RBI in the 8th inning. And it was an important one — tying the game and getting the Diamondbacks on the board.

2

The Diamondbacks’ series win was just their second in the last 10. They once split a two-game series in that span, when they hosted the Cleveland Indians for a two-game set.

5

Goldschmidt was the walk-off hero of the day. It was the fifth walk-off hit of his career.

8

The Diamondbacks have played in eight extra-innings games this season. They are 6-2 in such affairs.

9

Hill’s leadoff at-bat in the decisive 10th shouldn’t be understated. He battled Cishek for nine pitches, ultimately winning a single and catalyzing the eventual rally.

11

Marlins All-Star Giancarlo Stanton went 0-for-11 in the series with seven strikeouts.

30

Goldschmidt has now reached base safely in 30 straight games, one game shy of a career high.

41

Peralta’s 41 hits through his first 34 games for the Diamondbacks tie a club record which was previously exclusively held by Stephen Drew.

61

Goldschmidt’s two-RBI double gave him his 61st RBI of the season. He trails only one of the guys in the opposite dugout, Stanton, in RBI among NL hitters.
