Cardinals reportedly to let Catanzaro, Fells become unrestricted free agents

The Arizona Cardinals are not expected to tender contracts to two restricted free agents, kicker Chandler Catanzaro and tight end Darren Fells, AZCardinals.com reporter Kyle Odegard tweeted Thursday.

Special teams were an issue for the Cardinals in their underwhelming 2016 campaign, with Catanzaro being no exception. The 26-year-old Clemson alum missed seven of 28 field goal attempts and four extra-points last season.
Fells, meanwhile, made 14 receptions for 154 yards last season, starting just seven games and appearing in 14. Arizona already agreed to an extension with tight end Jermaine Gresham on Tuesday, while Troy Niklas, Ifeanyi Momah and Hakeem Valles also remain in the TE fold.
The news to non-tender Catanzaro and Fells comes on the first day of NFL free agency, a day on which the Cardinals are likely to lose Tony Jefferson and Calais Campbell to other teams. Furthermore, Arizona is likely to see players like safety D.J. Swearinger and cornerback Marcus Cooper hit the market.
