Coach Whisenhunt wants Cardinals to stay the course

Oct 10, 2011, 6:51 PM | Updated: 8:12 pm

The Arizona Cardinals are now 1-4 on the season and
they’re riding a four game losing streak, yet head coach
Ken Whisenhunt is convinced this will turn around.

“I like the guys on our football team. And we’re gonna
continue to work the way that we know can be successful
for us. And at some point it will start working.”

Coach Whisenhunt also emphasized on Monday that he likes
the way the team is preparing by putting in extra time in
meetings and on the practice field.

“I know that what I believe in, what we believe in, works.
And I know you stick to it. Probably four years ago, a lot
of people banging on us saying we weren’t a very good team
and we went to the Super Bowl. I believe in sticking with
what we know works and if we make plays, then so be it.”

The problem with Coach Whisenhunt’s statement is that it
doesn’t seem to be working. I understand the “if it
ain’t broke, don’t fix it” theory but the definition of
insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and
expecting different results. This does seem to be broken
and needs fixing.

The next couple of weeks don’t get any easier for the
Cardinals with a game at home against the Steelers and
then hitting the road to play Baltimore. They’ll need all
the practice they can get during this bye week to get
things on track.

“Our team can see evidence from the tape that if we do it
right we can be a good football team, we’ve just gotta get
that done,” Whisenhunt said. “There’s just gotta be a
sense of urgency to get that done. And that’s what we’re
going to work on this week.”

Only time will tell if Coach Whisenhunt’s philosophy
works, but it makes me nervous because he said the same
thing last season and that ended poorly.
