Paul Goldschmidt proves he’s back with two homers in win over Colorado

Is Paul Goldschmidt back?
That’s the question everyone was asking after the slumping first baseman had eight hits in a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants.
Well, the answer appears to be yes.
Goldschmidt had two home runs, a double and three RBI in the D-backs’ 9-4 win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday.
The 30-year-old got started early, doubling in his first at-bat and scoring off a Daniel Descalso single.
He would hit a two-run homer in the third, bringing in new teammate Jon Jay and two more runs.

The second long ball would be of the solo variety in the ninth, an extra run of insurance for the bullpen to end the game.
Goldschmidt would receive help.
Jake Lamb and David Peralta both homered in the third, Zack Greinke hit an RBI single in the sixth, Jeff Mathis tripled in the eighth for an RBI and Chris Owings also picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly in the same inning.
While the Rockies would threaten with a three-run fifth inning, it was a game the D-backs controlled and never trailed in.
It wasn’t Zack Greinke’s best outing or his worst. He threw 5.2 innings, giving up four runs (three earned), eight hits and two walks, striking out five.
Goldschmidt’s hot streak comes at the best time for the D-backs, who are in a tight NL West race as they had back-to-back series against division foes.
With the win over Colorado, the D-backs are 1.5 games ahead of the Rockies for the division lead.
After hitting .500 for the first time all season (26-26) on May 27, Arizona has won seven of their last 10 games.
