The Arizona Diamondbacks will celebrate the life of late general manager Kevin Towers prior to this week’s Throwback Thursday game against the San Francisco Giants at Chase Field.
A “KT” patch will adorn the front of the D-backs’ jersey alternates as the team celebrates its 2011 National League West division title squad. Towers was the general manager of that team and served for Arizona from 2010-14.
The D-backs will honor Towers and the team prior to the 6:40 p.m. first pitch on Thursday, and former players Miguel Montero and Cody Ransom will throw out the first pitch.
Towers passed away on Jan. 29 after a battle with cancer.
To pay their respects to the long-time MLB executive before the season, Arizona renamed a Chase Field suite that Towers used to sit in “Kevin’s Tower.”
“This was his home, so we wanted a way where we could see his smiling face each and every day,” D-backs CEO and president Derrick Hall said prior to showing off the remodeled suite in April. “And that’s why today we’re renaming the box that he sat in every day ‘Kevin’s Tower.’”
Prior to serving as the Diamondbacks general manager, Towers worked for the NL West rival San Diego Padres from 1995-2009.
