Cardinals release DT Garrison Smith, make practice squad moves

The Arizona Cardinals released defensive tackle Garrison Smith on Tuesday, leaving a roster spot open for the time being.
They also released practice squad linebacker B.J. Bello and signed linebacker Nigel Harris in his place.

With Smith gone, the team could be leaving the vacated roster spot open as it searches the free agent market for upgrades. John Gambadoro of 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station reported Tuesday that the Cardinals planned to work out receiver Kendall Wright on Wednesday.
Smith appeared in each of the Cardinals’ first two games of the year, blowout losses to the Washington Redskins and Los Angeles Rams. The backup tackle recorded two tackles.

In his fifth NFL season, Smith had appeared in just 11 previous NFL games with the Seattle Seahawks from 2016-17. He has 16 career tackles.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Harris appeared in eight games last season with the Chargers, Giants and Buccaneers. An undrafted rookie out of South Florida, Harris tallied nine tackles with those teams in 2017.
Harris was waived by the Chargers on Sept. 2.
Bello joined the Cardinals’ practice squad after 53-man roster cuts this season and signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted rookie a year ago.
