For the second straight week, the Arizona Cardinals haven’t moved down in the 10 NFL Power Rankings we track for The Consensus.

Of course, the first week in that span saw Arizona move up after a late rally that led to an 18-15 win over San Francisco. This week, it’s because the Cardinals were on their bye.

There was minimal shifting (three outlets moved the Cardinals up a spot; one moved them down), but it’s pretty much the same real estate for Arizona as it heads into a rough Week 10 matchup against Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday.

The Cardinals believed they would go as Sam Bradford went, and that has come to fruition. Bradford struggled in three starts with 400 total passing yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions, before getting benched in favor of rookie Josh Rosen. No one expected the Cardinals’ offense to be as bad as it has been. Part of that was Bradford, and part of it was Mike McCoy’s playcalling misuse of RB David Johnson. It all adds up to the Cardinals falling well below expectations.

As mentioned before in the Power Rankings, it stinks when a team earns an emotional win, then immediately goes into a bye week. Especially for these Cardinals, who have taken a lot of lumps in their first season under head coach Steve Wilks. The week off should definitely have helped new OC Byron Leftwich take more of a deep dive with rookie Josh Rosen, as well as pore over what has gone swimmingly … and what hasn’t (HINT: most everything) through eight games. Next up: at Chiefs. Great googly moogly.

They can use some inspiration. Maybe signing Aurora, Colo., shooting survivor Zack Golditch will provide it … while bolstering O-line.

David Johnson has had more than 20 touches in a game just once this season. I get that the Cardinals can’t sustain drives and game scripts have been bad, but the first game-plan meeting each week for the offensive coaches should start with how they’ll get Johnson more than 20 touches.

The reality is that the second half of Arizona’s season will probably only be marginally less unbearable than the first. This is a franchise in the first stages of what amounts to a ground-up rebuild. But if Arizona can develop Rosen some the rest of way and get the offense going at least a little, it will offer the Cardinals something to build on heading into the offseason. Just don’t win too many games—you’ll louse up your draft position.

The bottom five teams heading into Week 10 are the Browns, Cardinals, Giants, Bills, and Cardinals; these teams are essentially fighting for draft positioning for the next eight weeks.
