The news that the Arizona Cardinals had fired first-year head coach Steve Wilks drew reaction from those around the league, but one person to give their take was the man who coached against Wilks in his final game at the helm.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll offered his thoughts on Wilks on Monday when he spoke on his weekly radio show on ESPN 710 Seattle. The Seahawks won 27-24 over the Cardinals on Sunday and Carroll reacted to the recent head coaching vacancies around the league.

Around the 9:06 mark of the audio above, Carroll shared his thoughts on Wilks as a head coach and the hand he was dealt coaching a rookie quarterback.

“I was at the Jets for one year and I got bounced. Steve Wilks got knocked out in one shot. Steve Wilks is a good ball coach. Just as an example, that one time with a new rookie quarterback — I don’t know how you miss that,” Carroll said. “That’s so challenging. How many teams with a rookie quarterback have great success their first time around? It’s just difficult.”

Rosen was one of five quarterbacks taken in the first round of the NFL Draft with the No. 10 overall pick. Each of the five QBs has started for their team for at least seven games.

The UCLA product Rosen is already under his second offensive coordinator of his NFL career after Mike McCoy was fired in October. He will be under a second head coach when he enters his second season.

Rosen finished the season finale with 149 yards in the air and his first touchdown pass since November.

The Cardinals displayed one of their better efforts despite the close loss and sub-par performance by Rosen, though Carroll was impressed.

“That was a good looking team yesterday with a pup quarterback,” he said.

The Cardinals’ offense finished last in total yards per game, points scored and rushing yards per game.

Wilks is the eleventh coach since 2000 to be fired after his first season.
