The Arizona Cardinals agreed to a three-year deal with cornerback Robert Alford, the team announced Thursday.

98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro was the first to report the deal was for three years. Gambadoro reports Alford had interest from several teams before choosing the Cardinals.

Per the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the contract could be worth up to $24 million with $13.5 million guaranteed.

The 30-year-old Alford has 76 starts under his belt for the Atlanta Falcons from 2013-18 and didn’t give up the starting job since earning it late in his rookie season. He was originally picked by the Falcons in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Southeastern Louisiana.

Alford was released by the Falcons on Tuesday with two years and $17 million left on his contract. The Falcons saved $7.9 million in 2019 by letting go of Alford.

Alford has 291 career tackles, 10 interceptions, 85 passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

The veteran corner is expected to start on the opposite side of Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Peterson. Jamar Taylor, Bene Benwikere and David Amerson all spent time starting alongside Peterson last season for the Cardinals.
