ASU’s Hunter Bishop selected No. 10 overall by Giants in 2019 MLB Draft

ASU baseball outfielder Hunter Bishop was selected No. 10 overall by the San Francisco Giants in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft on Monday.
Bishop was previously taken in the 24th round (714th overall) in 2016 by the Padres but elected to go play college ball at ASU.
During three seasons with the Sun Devils, Bishop hit a combined .305 but is coming off a 2019 season in which he hit .342 with 22 home runs and 63 RBI in 57 games. He had five multi-homer games this season and finished with a 1.227 OPS.
The Palo Alto, Calif., native was named to the Pac-12 All-Conference First Team and also received multiple midseason award nominations, emerging this year as one of the top sluggers in college baseball.

His 22 home runs were tied for sixth in college baseball and just one more than his teammate, Spencer Torkelson, whose 21 dingers were tied for 10th in NCAA. Bishop also ranked seventh in NCAA with a .765 slugging percentage and sixth in total bases with 163.
ESPN’s Keith Law had Bishop as the No. 8 overall prospect in the draft.
It’s the first time Arizona State has had a player selected in the first round since the Red Sox took infielder Deven Marrero 24th overall in 2012. Before that, pitcher Mike Leake went eighth overall to the Reds in 2009.
Bishop’s brother, Braden, was a third-round pick in 2015 by the Seattle Mariners, for whom he plays today.
