The Arizona Cardinals officially released wide receiver Kevin White on Wednesday.

White was originally listed as the third starting wide receiver on the Cardinals’ first preseason depth chart and was running with the first team when he was healthy.

The former first-round pick, though, did not play the opener against the Los Angeles Chargers or the following week against the Oakland Raiders due to a hamstring injury. White had been practicing with the Cardinals since the loss to the Raiders.

White was one of the many bodies at wideout competing for a spot on the 53-man roster, signing a one-year deal with the Cardinals on March 15.

Along with mainstays Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk, the Cardinals drafted Andy Isabella (second round), Hakeem Butler (fourth round) and KeeSean Johnson (sixth round) this year. Butler will miss the rest of the preseason and could be placed on injured reserve after injuring his hand.

Names remaining on the bubble after White’s departure include Pharoh Cooper, Damiere Byrd, Trent Sherfield and former third-round pick Chad Williams.

After finishing with 109 receptions for 1,447 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior for West Virginia, White was the seventh overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, White ran a 4.35 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

Injuries have been the story of White’s career. He’s only played in 14 total NFL games over four seasons with the Bears.

White did not play in his rookie season, dealing with an injury to his left shin that ultimately led to a stress fracture in OTAs. After four games in the 2016 season, White fractured his fibula in that same left leg and missed the rest of the season.

As a starter the following season, White fractured his left shoulder blade in the first game of the season and was ruled out for for the third straight year.

White sparsely played last year for a 12-4 Bears squad, recording 19 catches for 187 yards.
