Coyotes trade Johan Larsson to Capitals for pick; Nash also on move

Forward Johan Larsson is heading from the Arizona Coyotes to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a 2023 third-round pick. Arizona also traded forward Riley Nash to the Tampa Bay Lightning for “future considerations.”

The team made the moves official shortly after the 12 p.m. MST NHL trade deadline passed.

“Johan is a great person and a true professional,” Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong said. “We appreciate his contributions to our club and wish him all the best in the future.”
The Coyotes retained 50% of Larsson’s salary, per the reports.

Larsson has six goals on 30 shots and nine assists over 29 games this season.

The 29-year-old made his NHL debut in the 2012-13 season with the Minnesota Wild but played for the Buffalo Sabres from 2013-20. He signed with the Coyotes as a free agent before last season.

It’s been a busy trade deadline for Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong. The team on Monday acquired center Nathan Smith and forward Bryan Little’s contract for a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft.

Arizona dealt goaltender Scott Wedgewood to the Dallas Stars on Sunday for a conditional fourth-round pick and also acquired center Jack McBain from the Minnesota Wild for a 2022 second-round choice.

Nash tallied four assists in 24 games played this season.
