Arizona Diamondbacks designated hitter Seth Beer stole the show on Opening Day Thursday night, lifting his team to a 4-2 win over the San Diego Padres with a walk-off three-run home run.

Thanks to Beer’s walk-off heroics happening on National Beer Day of all days, adult beverages are on him and the D-backs Friday night at Chase Field. Literally.

As a guest on Arizona Sports’ Wolf & Luke Friday, Beer said he’s still walking on “cloud nine,” following his big at-bat Thursday night.

“It was such an incredible experience and happy I was in that moment to give us a chance,” he said.

On Friday, the first 10,000 fans 21-and-over in attendance at the D-backs and Padres game will get a free Coors Light in celebration of the walk-off.

For Beer, it won’t be the first time he’s had a beer-themed promotion done in his honor.

He said during his time with Triple-A Reno that the Aces would do a free beer giveaway if he knocked a base hit in the first five innings.

Beer also added that away teams in the minors would hand out beer for their fans if he struck out.

“I’ve been a ‘beer batter’ everywhere I’ve been,” he said.

On his big hit, Beer said he was just trying to keep things simple at the plate as if his at-bat was in the first inning.

Beer was aware one swing could change the game, but said he was really just looking to get a ball to the outfield at the least.

While he went down as the hero Thursday night, he said it was a collective effort to put him in that situation.

“First thing we had to do was get a hit, or get on base to start something … it starts with the little things,” Beer said.

While it was just Game 1 of 162, Beer said doing the little things right is something the D-backs will put an emphasis on in 2022.

“What we’re trying to do with this year is do all the little things right,” he said. “Backs against the wall, we stuck to the little things.”
