Cardinals’ win over Packers the craziest thing I’ve seen

In retrospect maybe I was swept up in the moment like everybody else.

Or maybe I wasn’t.

Saturday night, moments before scrambling out of the press box and downstairs to hear Bruce Arians’ thoughts on the win over Green Bay, I tweeted that “I have never seen anything like this with my own eyes. Ever. Ever. Ever.”

About halfway through the Arians Q-and-A, it occurred to me the tweet made me sound like that guy who walks out of the movie and swears it’s the best movie he’s ever seen. Big bold statements like that are like a bottle of expensive wine. You have to let it breathe a little.

Besides, I’ve seen some crazy…well….stuff.

These eyes (live and in-person) saw ASU beat Nebraska and David Boston break the Devils’ heart later that winter. David Tyree’s helmet catch. Boise State’s Statue of Liberty. Kurt Warner with more TD passes than incompletions vs. the Packers.

And the obvious — in November of 2001 I was standing in a line waiting to get into the clubhouse of the presumed World Series losers, the Arizona Diamondbacks. Somebody set up a TV for us to watch the inevitable conclusion while in line. Then Grace happened. Womack happened. Gonzo happened. And before I knew it I was sprinting to get on the field to interview the World Series winners, the same Arizona Diamondbacks.

It was Game 7 of the World Series. It was Rivera. It was a series that already delivered all the Byung-Hyun Kim drama a human could take and the President of the United States throwing out the first pitch post-9/11. In the context of everything that could be won or lost in that moment I suppose it will always be the most astonishing thing these eyes have seen.

And yet…

A 60-yard completion on a 4th-and-20 from the 4-yard line? Another Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary? A coin that doesn’t flip? Fitz doing Fitz things and in the process cementing his status as the most popular (maybe not the best but most popular) athlete to ever play in these parts?

Take the context out of it and just go with the pure wacko stuff that went down.

Twenty-four hours later I feel pretty confident, I have never seen anything like that with my own eyes.

Ever. Ever. Ever.
