Nearing the deadline for making qualifying offers to restricted free agents, the Coyotes announced the signing of goaltender Louis Domingue.

Per club policy, the terms of Domingue’s contract were not disclosed.

“We are very pleased to sign Louis to a multi-year contract,” said Coyotes general manager John Chayka in a press release. “Louis had a breakthrough season last year and we are confident that he and Mike (Smith) will form a great tandem for us.”

Domingue has a career record of 16-20-6 with a 2.74 GAA and a .912 save percentage in 46 NHL games. Last year, in the place of an injured Mike Smith, Domingue went 15-18-5 with a 2.75 GAA. His 15 wins as a rookie are a franchise record. In January, he won NHL Rookie of the Month.

Smith’s original backup last season, Anders Lindback, is now a free agent. Domingue saw much of the time in net last year while Smith was on the injured reserve.
