David Johnson already has his first highlight of the 2016-17 season

It didn’t take long.

Even in limited playing time in the preseason opener, second-year running back David Johnson still had enough time to fool a defender.

On the Arizona Cardinals’ first drive of the preseason against the Oakland Raiders, Johnson looked for room to the outside and saw Oakland cornerback David Amerson.

Johnson shuffled his feet and juked quickly to the right, giving Amerson the lone option of diving at the 6-foot-1, 224-pound running back and trying to hold onto his legs. As one would expect, that didn’t work.

Johnson would gain 23 yards on the play. He had three carries for 31 yards on the drive and like the rest of the first-team offense except for D.J. Humphries, he was done for the night.

The 24-year-old is looking to prove his 13-touchdown rookie season last year was no fluke. He’s been raved about in training camp, with running backs coach Stump Mitchell saying he has “all the tools to be — given longevity — one of the best backs ever to play that game.”
