The Arizona Cardinals have depth issues at cornerback heading into Week 2 of the NFL season, and it didn’t take long for general manager Steve Keim to address them.

The team claimed corner Tharold Simon off waivers after he was released by the Seattle Seahawks Tuesday. To make room on the roster, Arizona waived/injured LB Lamar Louis.

Simon, 25, played three seasons at LSU, where he was a teammate of current Cardinals Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu and Kevin Minter. Heracked up 99 total tackles, seven interceptions and 22 passes defended.

He was a third-round pick (138th overall) of the Seahawks in 2013. He didn’t see action in his rookie season after being placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list with a foot injury.

Simon played in 2014, seeing action in 10 games (five starts). The 6-foot-2, 202-pounder had an interception, four passes defended and 15 total tackles. He also saw time in Super Bowl XLIX in Glendale after Jeremy Lane suffered an injury during Seattle’s 28-24 loss to the New England Patriots.

The Cardinals signed two veteran cornerbacks during training camp, inking Mike Jenkins and Alan Ball. Jenkins suffered a hand injury early in camp and then suffered a torn ACL in the team’s third preseason game against the Houston Texans. The Cardinals reached an injury settlement with Ball on Aug. 31 as they whittled their roster to 75 players. The 31-year-old was bothered by a quad injury in camp.
