Cardinals running back David Johnson is the first player in NFL history to begin his season with 14 straight games of 100 or more total yards.

Johnson’s big drive in the fourth quarter of Arizona’s 48-41 home loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday saw him eclipse the 100-yard mark yet again.

“That’s elite company, nobody,” Arizona coach Bruce Arians said this week of the possibility of Johnson reaching the milestone. “That speaks for itself, really. The people that he’s being mentioned with are Hall of Fame guys, so for a second-year player, I think it’s outstanding.”

Johnson, who recorded four catches for 55 yards along with 12 carries for 53 more, is just the third player in history to record 100 or more scrimmage yards in 14 straight games or more — he joins the Lions’ Barry Sanders’ stretch of 15 games (1997) and the Raiders’ Marcus Allen’s stretch of 14 games (1985). Nobody, however, has gone on such a streak to begin a season.

The running back’s second rushing touchdown of the day also gave Johnson his 30th touchdown in 30 career games.

He tied the game 34-all with a touchdown run that ties John David Crow’s franchise mark of total touchdowns (17) for a single year. Johnson is one short of matching Crow’s mark with 14 rushing touchdowns for a season.
