Arizona Cardinals’ Drew Stanton passes concussion protocol, could play Sunday

Oct 11, 2014, 1:57 AM | Updated: 2:13 am

The Arizona Cardinals’ cloudy quarterback situation cleared up a bit late Friday as it was learned Drew Stanton had passed the NFL’s concussion protocol and has been cleared to play in Sunday’s game against Washington.

The news was first reported by Mike Jurecki, and sources have confirmed it to Arizona Sports’ Paul Calvisi.

Stanton, who has started the last three games for Arizona, originally suffered the injury in the third quarter of last Sunday’s 41-20 loss to the Broncos in Denver.

This season, in relief of an ailing Carson Palmer, Stanton has completed 43-of-88 passes for 529 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions. The Cardinals are 2-1 in games he has started.

Whether this news means Stanton will get a fourth start against Washington remains to be seen, as the team will wait to see how Palmer looks before making a decision. But at the very least, it would appear to put him on track to be under center Sunday afternoon if Palmer is unable to go.
