Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson struggled on the field for a good portion of the 2014 season.

In the middle of the year, both he and the team were vague in describing some issues the fourth-year player was going through, though it seemed like they were describing injuries.

Head coach Bruce Arians shed some light on those “issues” Thursday in a visit with Mike Florio on PFT Live.

“To me, he had a bad September,” Arians said. “And he was battling some blood sugar issues at the time that no one would ever be aware of.”

Arians went on to say that the scare was brief and Peterson is fully healthy.

“He’s fine. Around October, we had everything cleared up with him and he played four of the best games I’ve ever seen a cornerback play this year,” he said.

The coach went on to describe the condition as “borderline diabetic.”

“It was learning how to manage it and eat right and all of those things, but he’s fine. He’s healthy.” he said. “Our medical staff did a great job, and he did a great job — his wife is a doctor.”
