D-backs’ Ray ‘thankful’ for minimal symptoms after being hit in head

Robbie Ray said “things are moving slower than normal,” but after taking a 108-mph liner off his temple on Friday in St. Louis, the Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher will take it.

“I mean, I remember the whole thing,” Ray told FOX Sports Arizona’s Todd Walsh on Sunday. “I remember the pitch. I remember seeing it come back at me and just trying to get my face out of the way. That was the main thing. I didn’t want it to hit me in the front of the face. And I remember hitting the ground.”

Ray required stitching up at the hospital and was diagnosed with a concussion. The D-backs placed him on the seven-day concussion disabled list.

The left-hander said Cardinals first baseman Luke Voit, whose come-backer struck him, told Ray before he was carted off the field to have a speedy recovery.

“I just told him, ‘Hey, it’s baseball. Stuff happens, guys get hit,'” Ray said. “Honestly, I feel like I’m pretty thankful, pretty blessed to be here right now and feeling the way I do. It hit me in a spot where there was pretty much nothing there except for skull. No fracture, no bleeding. Just kind of slow right now.

“I’m not really thinking about getting back out there until I’m 100-percent.”
