Help is on the way in the form of infielder Jack Reinheimer, whom the the D-backs recalled from Triple-A Reno Tuesday to shore up a suddenly depleted shortstop position.

Starter Chris Owings was placed on the 60-day disabled list after suffering a fractured middle finger when he was hit by a pitch by St. Louis starter Lance Lynn Sunday.

Ketel Marte was placed on the bereavement list following the tragic accidental death of his mother, Elpidia Valdez, in the Dominican Republic.

The D-backs engineered a trade to acquire veteran Adam Rosales from the Oakland Athletics Monday before adding Reinheimer a day later. Rosales will be in the lineup and bat third in Tuesday’s series opener against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Reinheimer, 25, is having a solid season with the Aces, hitting .283 with four home runs and 44 RBI while posting a .970 fielding percentage in 351.2 innings at shortstop.

Reinheimer was acquired from the Seattle Mariners in June of 2015 in the trade that brought catcher Welington Castillo to Arizona and shipped outfielder Mark Trumbo to the Pacific Northwest. He was a fifth-round pick of the Mariners (147th overall) out of East Carolina University in 2013.

To make room on the roster, the Diamondbacks optioned relief pitcher Silvino Bracho to Reno.
