Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder David Peralta will not start in Tuesday’s game against the San Diego Padres.

Peralta left Monday night’s game in the sixth inning after experiencing tightness in his right quadriceps muscle.

After the game, Peralta told the media he initially felt tightness while running the bases in the third inning. The Venezuela native said he had the same feeling while making a diving stop on a double by the Padres’ Manuel Margot in the fifth.

Manager Torey Lovullo told Burns & Gambo of 98.7 FM, Arizona’s Sports Station Tuesday that Peralta insisted he come out of Monday’s game and had not spoken to the medical team yet about his status moving forward.

“He’s doing just fine,” Lovullo said. “I just saw him walk by my office, and he arrived at the ballpark a short time ago. Haven’t had a chance to get any information from the medical team. I usually get updated once the player gets undressed and gets some work done on them.

“Yesterday was a tough situation for him. I was the one that removed him from the game. I could just see by the look on his face. I spend a lot of time watching these guys, studying these guys, understanding body language and facial expressions. Sometimes there is some nonverbal communication, and I think yesterday he was trying to tell me that he was giving it all he could, but it wasn’t exactly right.”

The 30-year-old Peralta notched hit No. 145 of the season Monday, which surpassed his previous single season high of 144. The hit came in the third, a single and at the time cut the Padres lead to three runs, 4-1.

Peralta is hitting .292 this season and has hit .261 in the leadoff spot. But he is hitting only .226 in 62 at-bats this month.
