Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt will have to wait at least another season to win the Most Valuable Player Award.

The Miami Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton won the National League MVP in 2017, the MLB announced Thursday. Goldschmidt finished third in the voting to Stanton and Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto.

Goldschmidt led the D-backs to the playoffs for the first time since 2011. He hit 36 home runs and drove in 120 runs while slashing .297/.404/.563.

In the NL, Goldschmidt ranked third in runs (117), fourth in RBI and walks (94), fifth in OPS (.966) and tied for sixth in home runs.

There were other D-backs to pop up on voting sheets.

J.D. Martinez finished 14th overall in voting while Archie Bradley and Zack Greinke each received one 10th place vote.

Stanton led the majors with 59 dingers and 132 RBI in 2017 for Miami.

That home run total was the most since Barry Bonds’ 73 homers in 2001.

In his career, Goldschmidt has won the Hank Aaron Award in addition to other honors. The wait continues for his first MVP, as the D-backs’ first baseman was also runner-up for the NL MVP in 2013 and 2015.

While missing out on MVP, Goldschmidt won a Gold Glove Award and a Silver Slugger Award for the 2017 season.
