Is Beanie Wells a dependable player?

Sep 27, 2011, 12:46 AM | Updated: 2:07 am

Beanie Wells surprised football fans when it was announced early Sunday that he would not play against the Seahawks due to a nagging hamstring injury.

The move that put Wells on the bench was probably more precautionary than anything else.

The running back was a topic of conversation on Monday’s Doug and Wolf show on Arizona Sports 620.

“It’s not worth risking losing Beanie for three or four weeks,” co-host Ron Wolfley said. “Why not handle it right now, say we’re not going to have him for the Seattle game and then hopefully he’ll be 100 percent for the Giants game.”

If that was the motive for Wells’ inactivity, it is a sign that the Cardinals overlooked their division opponent and were already looking ahead to their next game.

But co-host Doug Franz wonders at what point does Wells become a player that his teammates cannot depend on?

Did Wells let his teammates down on Sunday by not forcing his way into the game or was it the right call to get him back to full health for the rest of the season?

Wolfley said it is not an issue other Cardinals teammates have to be concerned with.

“I don’t think any player should be worried about any other player,” Wolfley said. “As a player, you can only control what you can control.”
