Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Robbie Ray will make his first rehab start in Visalia on Thursday night, Fox Sports Arizona tweeted.

Ray is expected to throw about 50 pitches. He said he thinks he’ll need at least two rehab starts.

On April 15, Ray was placed on the disabled list with a strained right oblique.

Since, the D-backs went through a variety of options before settling on Matt Koch and Clay Buchholz to take the place of Ray and fellow injured starter Taijuan Walker in the rotation.

Koch is 4-3 with a 4.20 ERA over 10 starts this season.

Buchholz, who debuted with the D-backs May 20, is 1-1 with a 3.21 ERA and has given up two or fewer runs in four of his five starts.

Ray struggled over his first six starts this season, posting a 4.88 ERA before getting injured.

The D-backs are hoping he can regain his 2017 production.
