The Arizona Diamondbacks placed left-handed pitcher Andrew Chafin on the paternity leave list Tuesday and recalled Silvino Bracho from Triple-A Reno, the team announced.
Chafin, 28, owns a 1.67 ERA in 52 games this season with a 1.168 WHIP. He has 37 strikeouts to 18 walks in 37.2 innings pitched in 2018, his fifth big league season.
Bracho, meanwhile, has been up and down this season, literally: Tuesday marks the eighth time in 2018 the right-hander has been recalled from Triple-A. When he’s been in the big leagues, he’s been effective, posting a 2.04 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched.
The D-backs had no shortage of transactions on Tuesday, as Chafin’s move to the paternity list was just the icing on the cake. Arizona also traded for its former closer, Brad Ziegler, sending a minor-league pitcher to the Marlins to acquire the 38-year-old veteran.
Later in the day, just before the trade deadline, the D-backs also sent a prospect and a player to be named later for Texas Rangers reliever Jake Diekman. In a corresponding move, they designated Jorge De La Rosa for assignment.
