SURPRISE, Ariz. — The Arizona Diamondbacks might be losing a reliever to a long-term injury before the start of the regular season.

An MRI on Monday revealed a partial UCL tear in the right arm of Silvino Bracho, reports The Athletic’s Zach Buchanan.

The D-backs sent his results to Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion and D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said on Tuesday the team hopes to know more “in hopefully the next 24 to 48 hours.”

“It appears there’s something more going on in there and we just want to get some more information and send it off to Dr. Andrews,” Lovullo said Tuesday.

If the D-backs don’t get good news, it’s possible Bracho will undergo Tommy John surgery.

That would sideline Bracho, who got hurt over the weekend, for the entire 2019 season.

Bracho, 26, had a 3.19 ERA in 31 innings with the D-backs last season and was competing for a spot in the bullpen this spring.

The fifth-year pro has a 10.13 ERA in three appearances in the spring.

“We’re still hoping for the absolute best news possible but if it doesn’t go that way…Silvino was still competing for a spot,” Lovullo said. “Nothing was going to be handed to him because of his situation.

“If it doesn’t have a great ending, there’s going to be some spots or another spot available.”
