The Arizona Diamondbacks recently got Jake Lamb back from the injured list, and one of his fellow infielders has followed not far behind.

Wilmer Flores, who had been on the 10-day IL since May 21 with a right foot contusion, was activated on Thursday. First baseman Kevin Cron was optioned back to Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move.

The 27-year-old Flores is playing in his first season with the D-backs after spending the first six years of his career with the New York Mets. He has played all four infield positions at the MLB level in his career but split time between first and second since coming to Arizona.

On the offensive side of things, he’s been productive as a right-handed bat in the D-backs lineup. Flores hit .281 with a .725 OPS, two home runs and 14 RBIs in 42 games (138 PA) before going on the shelf due to injury.

A crowded infield now includes Flores, Lamb, Eduardo Escobar, Ildemaro Vargas, Nick Ahmed, Christian Walker and Domingo Leyba. Ketel Marte spent time at second base, but with the depth of personnel in the infield and injuries to outfielders, he’s been playing in center field.

Cron has been up-and-down between Reno and the big league club this year, hitting .207 with five home runs and 15 RBI in 27 games for the D-backs.

The D-backs begin a homestand Thursday night against the Brewers, a four-game set during which kids 15 and under get in the ballpark for free. You can catch those games on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
