PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned right-handed pitcher Stefan Crichton to Triple-A Reno on Friday night following his appearance in a loss to the Nationals.
Crichton pitched two innings of relief, allowing one run on a long fly ball home run to Juan Soto.
The D-backs also outrighted right-handed pitcher Joey Krehbiel to Triple-A Reno after he was designated for assignment on July 31.
Crichton, 27, has gone up and down between Reno and the D-backs this season, but in the major leagues has totaled 13 relief appearances with a 3.24 ERA and 0.900 WHIP in 16.2 innings. He owns a 4.34 ERA in 29 appearances with the Aces in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.
A corresponding move for Crichton to fill the spot on the 25-man roster wasn’t announced, although it would stand to reason that it makes room for the team to activate pitcher Zac Gallen, who was traded to the D-backs from the Marlins on Wednesday, the day of MLB’s trade deadline.
Krehbiel, 26, pitched two major league games for the D-backs in 2018 but has been in Reno for all of this year. He had an 8.25 ERA and 1.911 WHIP there in 41 appearances this year. Arizona’s 40-man roster is now at 40.
